New Hairdo!

I have been a bum about updating my blog to my biggest changes, but seeing as I have rendered myself useless [bleach in my hair], I may as well blog about  it. Before you start getting worried, I’m just talking about changing my hair.

I recently cut most of my hair off. I mean for realz, most of my hair is gone-zo, but I love it. Let’s review some photo history:
Check out the hair I used to have. I was pretty much at mermaid length hair.
The trouble was with hair this long, if I washed it in the morning and put it up it would be wet all day. Things that don’t do well in winter. I loved my long hair, but have been planning a change for a long time now. Yes, I will likely grow out my hair again someday.

Even though my hair had been bleached, I decided to try and donate it to a wig making charity. The requirements page listed that they would be able to sell the hair for profits (to make more wigs) if they couldn’t use my hair. So my hair stylist braided it into four sections and started whacking off hair!Pretty soon I was left with four braids in hand and a really awkward bob. I was excited to keep moving on from this weird hair length. She pinned up bits of my hair and cut sections at a time. Our goal was to have short sides, very short back, bangs and enough hair on top to spike up and play with. M cut on cut on my hair for almost two hours!! I am very high maintenance I think.
This is just a little bit of the hair that was ultimately cut off. Keep in mind it doesn’t include the heavy braids nor the final 30 minutes of trimming and fudging to make it perfect.

This was the end result! It is very very different from my usual loooong hair and no bangs. And yes, I am still getting used to my bangs.

I know you’re shocked but I still wasn’t pleased exactly with the length. So I got more cut off and I bleached it out.
Just freshly cut off some more.
Bleached, washed, cut and styled. This crazy spiky look is exactly what I want. I may wear my bangs down over my forehead if I want a slightly less spikey hairdo.

Day 332: Buzzed Kitty

Went to visit my mum and take pictures of her ridiculous cat. Apple is a longhaired cat that had collected some nasty matted hairballs in her fur. She went to the vet to be groomed.

My mom’s definition of grooming is a little different than the results pictured. From here on out, Apple will get twice daily a brushing to try to keep the tangles out. The hard part will be getting her used to the attention and feel of brushing.

Apple does love perching on laps and adores the attention so maybe she’ll take a shine to at home grooming. She definitely hated her trip to the vet so maybe that will encourage her to appreciate her home.
Apple’s hair on head and tail are normal but her body is shaved. It was too comical not to share.

Day 328: Braided Back

Over the last few days I have been practicing the herringbone braid and I see some very big improvements. The braid is less messy and much tighter all around. I also like to think it looks good with my uniform and big flat hat.

This style of braid tends to sit lower–at least how I do it–so it ensures my flat hat fits better,  my hair stays out of my face and off of my badges. All around it may be my regular hair style this summer.

I doubt that my explanation of how to accomplish this will help you. I suggest looking up proper how-tos and videos.
However, I will offer how I do it anyway. Brush through hair and split onto two bunches (instead of three for a regular braid).
Take a small amount from the outside of one bunch and pass it over to the other bunch. By outside, I mean the hair furthest away from the center part you have made. Repeat from the opposite bunch of hair.
The smaller amounts of hair you pass over means it will look more complex and cool. Once, I did this braid in such a way it looked as though I use three bunches of hair just like a regular braid-Oops!

I’m a long way from French braiding but I’m loving this for now :-)

Day 152: Herringbone Braid

My Sis-IL has taught herself how to do this fishbone braid. It is Sooo beautiful! She recently fixed my hair.

I am embarrassed to admit I only learned how to do a regular braid about three four years ago.

However I am extrememly impressed with myself at all the silly accomplishments I have made in the past five years.

Using a push and riding mower is no longer alien to me, nor driving a stick shift, or many facets of cooking.

Cow spit atop pies is still a mystery to me but I don’t want to spoil that fun too early in my life.

That Girl Wears Flowers in her Hair

I’m trying to figure out what to do with my hair for the wedding. There is a strong possibility that both my soon-to-be husband and I will both have long hair. I love braids because they are both sexy, and functional.

His hair is simple to figure out. Wash it, brush it, simple braid straight down the back of his head. Attack his hair with product where the unruly Apache hair sticks out.

My hair I want to be a bit fancier. I have several girlfriends who love doing braids and are amazing with their hands. *wink*
I’m hoping that my hair will be a bit longer in the fall. Right now it’s just past shoulder length. Not anywhere near the length I had before I cut it last fall. Where was the sensible me saying “Girl, you know you hate your hair when it’s short!”??

Did some google searches for some pretty braids and didn’t come up with a lot. Apparently, most women go for the huge prom fluffy style hairdo or tight buns for their weddings.

For example, Sarah Michelle Gellar has a really pretty up-do braid. The only part I don’t like about it is the rat’s nest at the back of her head. That could have been done different to make her look more glam.

I also would kinda like some hair hanging down so when I get to dancing I look super amazing.

I could even go with a simple braid down my back, but I could have it adorned with bunches of real flowers tucked into the braid itself.

Or does that sound too cheesy?

Let’s say that the big day gets closer and closer, but I still haven’t found the perfect braid or hairstyle. I will probably fall back on something easier to put together. Like having my hair down and similar to Sarah’s braid above making a circlet of flowers.

You have to imagine me and not a seven year old wearing that though. Probably in one of my colors too…perhaps yellow?

The super awesome side of going for a cheap wedding is not feeling sick at your stomach guilty for spending thousands of dollars on jewelry you will (theoretically) only wear once. My fiance has offered to pay for my wedding earrings so I don’t have to stress over that tiny detail. It’s between the above set and…

Which is better?

I know I haven’t picked a hair style yet, but I will probably end up on a half-do. Half up/half down, which is why I think a smaller earring with a little bit of dangle will be just perfect.

Has this post gone on too long?

Ed.: $20 may not seem like a huge sacrifice, but until I get real employment this summer my back account is slowly waning. I have a screwy class schedule this semester which limits my regular 20 hours per week of work study to equal more bare bones pay checks.
