Walkabout The Snow Day

Snow DateDepending on your line of work (teachers) and your age (still in grade school) you will see a ton of snow days in Kentucky. I don’t get many snow days as I am not a teacher nor am I in school. Snow Days in the South are a big joke to people up North who get snow in feet not inches. Down here, it would be insane to send a standard yellow school bus down curvy country roads that haven’t seen salt trucks ever. We got several inches of snow and several inches of ice overnight and I got a snow day! Sometimes it is good to live on back roads. It took most of the day for the road crews in our area to get the main parkways and interstates clear. We’re still waiting for our main highway to be cleared today (day two).

On our snow day we made a big pot of chicken and dumplings and sipped on hot coffee through the morning.

Veggies in broth

This photo of the chicken stock and the onions, celery and carrots was too beautiful not to share. Isn’t food just BEAUTIFUL! You can tell why my weight loss is so slow going. Hah!

Chicken n' dumplings

I painted my nails blue while we watched tons of episodes of Bones, Leverage and Rules of Engagement. I also caught up on some reading–glorious, glorious reading.

In the afternoon, I donned three shirts, two pants, a sweater, hat and insulated overalls. I hadn’t ventured out of the house much because I hate being cold, but given the proper preparation I love it! I romped in just about every snow drift on the farm to show how impressively deep the snow had gotten–Several feet.

I attempted to  throw a snowball at Kit but quickly realized it was much to powdery for any real fun. A snowman would have been out of the question.  However, I had a grand time romping in drifts, making a snow angel, spying tracks of and seeing some actual wildlife.
We brought the camera:

One foot on top of snow and the other sunk to what I assume was the ground.

I remember making dozens of snow angels as a kid until I got the perfect one. Then my brothers usually walked through it.

Sunken into a drift that built up by the neighbor’s fence row. My knee is below the snow line.

geeseonpond

We wanted to see the half frozen pond and had to stop in short to keep from scaring off the pair of moose enjoying the pond. Okay, moose is a weird inside joke and it is what we call Canadian geese. If I explained it you would just think I am more crazy and less funny.

The obligatory Snow Day Selfie! I hope you guys got to stay home with your loved ones. And if you didn’t get to yesterday, then make a point to spend a day with the people who make you smile soon!

Day 357: Shellac Update

image

Okay, I know feet are weird shaped, but I promised to keep you up to date on my shallac toe nail polish.

One of my toenails lost the paint. Oddly enough it was all in one piece. My girl friend said that sometimes if the color was painted to the cuticle it can come off more easily as the toe nails grow.

I have some purple nail polish that I will paint on my nails as they peel off. I think this will make some cute toes with different shades of purple.

Day 342: Shellac Toes

image

Like I said I got “my nails did” the other day. The shellac is supposed to last a super long time without chipping. They guarantee it for 14 days after which your toenails are growing out, but it still wont chip.

I felt a little silly knowing I will headed overseas on a big hike, yet this will be a true test of how it withstands lots of rough treatment.
The lady doing our nails said most people get it before going to the beach so their toes look great the whole time.

I will make sure to take a picture and date it if I get any chips in the polish. For anyone not salon savvy, like me, the light wasn’t hot or even as I expected and the polish feels a bit thicker than regular polish.

Day 204: Candy Toes

image

This is my final post on candy corn toenails for a while. Especially since we are almost out of the candy corn season. Maybe I should do Indian corn toes? Hrmmm

I tried a different method this time and I think I like it better. So this what I recommend.

Paint your whole nail yellow. Allow to completely dry then paint orange allowing enough yellow to show. Allow to dry then paint white tips.

The two hard aspects of doing it this way is 1) visualizing how much to paint to allow even amounts of color and 2) allow things to totally dry.

I will have to find another easy winter or Christmas type style to do for the next few months.
Pinterest, don’t fail me now!

Day 177: Corny Nails

image

I know I have posted about these before but I have gotten a bit better at them and I wanted.to show them off.

I also have the correct yellow so I am really loving them.
This time I really got good coats of color on there too. The corn candy nails lasted most of the week and I had to remove it for work anyway–which took forever.

Anyone doing fun makeup or costumes for Halloween?

My costume is almost complete and I can’t wait to share it with you!!!

Day 164: Homemade French Tips

image

Bren, the baby already has fingernails!

No, there is no baby. I just felt that a Juno quote was appropriate.

Thee are my homemade French tips. I mean you nail divas of the world are scoffing. So let me impress you with my lack of experience.

I don’t do nail art and just recently discovered those adorable stickers that you put on your nails and paint clear over.

I did these suckers freehand. Which was actually easier than I first imagined. With lots of practice I plan to be a French tipping queen.

My right hand was much much worse. Notice I am not posting a picture of my right.

Someone told to try those hole reinforcement stickers you can get for school. I may give that a whirl.

Day 145: Candy Corn Nails Practice

image

Alright,  go ahead with your Nailed It jokes. This is my first attempt at candy corn fingernails that I found on pinterest. And my second attempt of any kind of nail art.

I know I need a different yellow because the one I have is too golden. My white and orange are good however so it gets the basic effect.

I am still debating applying fake nails to pull this off. I have only put on fake nails one other time in my life and they felt really weird and goofy. For Halloween I guess I could give it a whirl…..shrug.

Whether you think I nailed it or not I think they look adorable!
