Day 239: What’s in Your Stocking?

image

I know there are many, many lists out there for what to put in your husband’s stocking but you know what, we need one more blog about it.

My hubster isn’t your typical hobbyist. He likes hunting and fishing but hasn’t been in years so he doesn’t need extra tackle or extra paraphernalia.

He’s not a guy who gets into baseball/football/basketball and there just isn’t much swag for people who like Professional Bull Riding. My hubster is really one of those guys who is hard to shop for.

Let me also preface my list by saying that items that go in stockings should be food or small gifts that cost under $5-10.

The exception to this rule is for adults. Many adults don’t want as many toys–instead wanting practical items (think kitchen utensils) or want a fancy accessory. By that I mean putting classy tie, jewelry, cufflinks, etc.

Kit and I don’t have a ton of money to spend on each other so any big presents are just wrapped under the tree. We bought all our small gifts at Everything’s a Dollar store. Small inedible gifts are typically wrapped in tissue paper.

Here’s our list of stuffers:
Scented candles,
Peanuts, cashews, pistachios, sunflower seeds,
Chocolate covered coffee beans,
Soft (old fashioned) peppermints, life savers mints,
Caramel creams,
Lindt truffles,
Jolly ranchers,
Beef jerky (traditional),
Chocolate covered cherry cordials,
Key chain light,
M&Ms,
Beenie Weenies, and
Oysters (this was a gag but we are weird and love eating them).

One of the sweetest gifts I gave didn’t come from a store. I wrote a letter to my husband and stuffed it into the stocking too. He wasn’t expecting it and read it straight through. He won’t want me telling but I saw him wiping the corners of his eyes.

I wrote about the fun and trials we had this year. My hopes for next year. How much I appreciated his love and support through hard decisions and teaching me to drive a manual.
It helps that he is an awesome partner, so writing the letter was easy. It means a lot to receive a hand written letter. It is something that takes time and he knows I was thinking about him the whole time I wrote it.

We will be traveling on Christmas Eve and Day to our family’s house so we’re doing our gift exchange early.
